Welcome to the small community of Dyer Indiana. Located just south of Hammond and minutes from the shores of Lake Michigan outside of Chicago, Dyer is home to about 17,000 residents and is considered a southeastern suburb of Chicago. It borders Münster to the north, the St. John Township to the south, Scherervillelle to the east, Lynwood and Sauk Village to the west and the Illinois state line, which comprises the entire western border of the community. Dyer has been touted as the #2 best places to live in the county. It gets an A for schools, housing, families, and diversity as well as low crime and great nightlife.
Dyer is in the Lake Central School Corporation and high school students are assigned to the Lake Central High School located in St. John. The Kahler middle school, Protsman elementary school and the Bibichelementary school are all within the town limits.
The median home value is about $208,000 with about 90% of residents being homeowners. Single-family homes start at about $150,000 with a few condominiums and townhouse options available. At any given time there are roughly 100 properties for sale within the town limits. There are also a few luxury homes priced over $700,000 and there are still lots and land available for custom building.
Dyer has several parks within its town limits including the Dyer dog park, a community market, Park events, and the Plum Creek Center, which hosts various Parks and Recreation will activities and is available for rentals. The amenities feature a catering kitchen, tables and chairs, a large gathering room, and a beautiful deck overlooking Plum Creek.
Dyer also hosts an annual Summer Fest, a summertime festival with carnivals, markets, arts and crafts fair, activities, and food vendors.
